About True-Script

True-Script is a screenwriting app for iPhone and iPad that lets you write by speaking. It is made by Andy Dodd, a filmmaker and independent developer at Iron Triangle Films in the UK.

Why it exists

Most screenwriting software assumes you are sat at a desk with a keyboard and an empty afternoon. Ideas rarely arrive like that. They turn up on a walk, in the car park after a shoot, or at two in the morning when a character finally says the line you have been chasing for a week. By the time you reach a laptop, half of it has gone.

True-Script was built to close that gap. You talk, and the scene appears on the page in proper screenplay format: scene headings, action, character names, dialogue and parentheticals, all where a reader expects them. Then you press play and hear it performed, with a different voice for every character, so you can find the clunky line or the scene that runs long before anyone else does.

It started as a tool I wanted for my own writing. Reading a script aloud is the oldest trick in the business, but you rarely have a room full of actors to hand. Hearing a draft played back, even by synthetic voices, shows up problems that silent reading hides: speeches that are too long, two characters who sound the same, jokes that land a beat late.

What True-Script does

• Dictation that formats. Say "interior, kitchen, night" and you get a scene heading. Say a character's name and their line follows as dialogue. Speech recognition runs on your device.
• Table Read. Hear your script performed, choose a voice for each character, pause and resume, or read one part yourself.
• Industry-standard pages. Courier 12 point, correct margins, scene numbers and a title page, so your script looks right to producers, readers and competitions.
• Final Draft, Fountain and PDF. Import and export the formats the industry actually uses, so you can move between True-Script and a desktop app freely.
• Unlimited scripts. Features, shorts, pilots and sketches, all in one place.

• Pay once. One purchase unlocks everything. No subscription, no premium tier and no adverts inside the app.
• Your scripts are yours. There is no account to create and nothing is uploaded. Your work stays on your device unless you choose to export it.
• Works anywhere. Writing doesn't need the internet, so neither does True-Script.
